RNLI - Beach Safety talk

12th April 2016
We had a visit from Beau and Joe, two local lifeguards on Tuesday 12th April.  They came into school to remind us about how to keep safe on the beach.  They talked about how to stay safe in the sun and what we can do to prevent getting sunburt.  They asked for a volunteer to get dressed up in a sun hat, a pair of sun glasses and a long sleeved t.shirt as these are all things we can wear to help protect ourselves from the harmful sun rays.  They asked what RNLI stands for and explained what their jobs are.  They reminded us what we had to do if we get into trouble whilst we are in the water and how to help others by calling the coastguard.  We now know where it is safe to swim on the beach and never to take inflatables into the sea as they are very light and can be easily taken away with the wind.  We are now all aware of what a rip current is, something which is very dangerous and can happen at Whitsand Bay.  We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and gained lots of important information to help us stay safe.
