Schools have a responsibility within their safeguarding procedures to ensure children and parents are knowledgeable in relation to 'online safety', and therefore children are kept safe while online.

Children at Fourlanesend School use the Internet on a regular basis as part of their learning. Children are supervised during online sessions and South West Grid for Learning ensures that any inappropriate content is filtered. E-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online. At home, sometimes children can be given unsupervised access to the Internet. This, potentially, allows them to access all kinds of society (both good and bad) and bring them virtually into their homes.

It’s essential to be realistic: banning the internet at home will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem or concerns they have. Education around safe use is essential.

Here are some tips and useful links to help you to keep your children safe online, which includes advice for parents on 'parental controls':
