Spring Term 2 2022

Friday 8th April

This week we finished off our research and write ups of our Maya Civilisation Fact Files (This linked to writing non-chronological reports in English)! We reflected on our end of unit question - Why do Christians call Good Friday ‘Good’ Friday? We learnt that Christians believe that Jesus died so that others could be forgiven for the things they do wrong, this is why it is called ‘Good’ Friday.

French this week was linked to Geography. We learnt the different Countries that also speak French and how to say these in French. We then identified where these are on an atlas. We also learnt how to tell someone where we live after introducing ourselves.

We finished off our Music unit this week. We used percussion instruments in the ‘Juba walk’ making sure that we kept in time with each other. We performed our composition to the class and had some time reflecting on our performance. We finished the lesson reminding ourselves of why the Juba dance was important to the composer ‘Florence Price’ and how this relates to the classical music that she composed.

Today we have enjoyed playing the ‘Would you rather’ game, practicing our reasoning and communication skills! We had great fun trying to convince each other why one option is better than the other whilst also listening to and respecting each others opinions. The whole school took part in the Easter Bonnet parade today – I was blown away by the effort put into their  by Easter bonnets. There were so many imaginative ideas for bonnets linked to things that move!

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter Break! See you in the Summer Term, class Tamar!

Friday 1st April

We had assessment week this week – all of class Tamar have worked so hard and showed some great enthusiasm for learning!

At the beginning of the week we continued with our computing unit, we learnt how to change the pen colour in our programs so that we can make some interesting shapes in different colours. We achieved our final outcome of creating shapes using a continuous loop!

We had our Science day today! We began the day testing how much friction different materials would have. We discovered that bubble wrap had the most friction and that tin foil had the lead friction. We think this is because bubble wrap had a very bumpy surface and tin foil is very smooth and flat. We move on our science day to magnets! We observed how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others by investigating the strength of different magnets. We finished the day by designing and making our own magnetic games!

Friday 25th March

We finished the week with DT! We designed, created and evaluated our moving posters all about the importance of recycling. We made sure that we made a prototype of our mechanism before making our final design.

In computing this week we learnt a new code! We were about the make a continuous loop by repeating our commands in a much simpler way. We made some wonderful shapes using this new skill!

We have learnt lots about the Holy week this week and linked our RE to our English lessons. Weparts of the holy week and reflected on the thoughts and feelings of those involved. We will soon be applying this to a diary entry pretending that we were there in real life!

We learnt about Maya writing and had searched for answers in the school field to answer our questions about Maya writing. We looked at some hieroglyphics and tried to work out what these might mean to us!

Friday 18th March

In English this week we finished our final drafts of our Choco-Goo adverts based on the story 'The King of Space'. In PE this week we have continued to practise Maypole dancing - we were able to do this outside and enjoy some sunshine!

In PSHE, as part of the 'Healthy me' unit, we talked about the word 'drugs' and what that means to us. We talked about how there are good drugs and bad drugs. Good drugs help to make us feel better however bad drugs are illegal and bad for our health.

In History we learnt about Maya numbers. We all had a go at working out what the different Maya numbers represented!

In DT this week we followed some instructions on how to make mechanisms our of card. These each used different levers. We then were introduced to our design criteria for our moving posters!

Friday 11th March

In English this week we planned and designed our 'Choco-goo' adverts. At the end of the week we gave feedback on each others work ready for our final drafts next week.

We started our Maypole dancing unit this week, we had to make sure that we were able to skip in time with each other in a circle, making sure that we didn't overtake. We managed to all successfully make a 'barbers pole'!

In RE, we were introduced to the Holy Week and we all reflected on how this story made us feel. A lot of Tamar was confused why the day that Jesus was crucified is called 'Good Friday'. This our unit questions! Why do Christians call the day Jesus died 'Good Friday'?

In PSHE, for our 'Health me' unit, we set ourselves some fitness goals. We went to the playground and tested our own fitness making sure that our results were recorded. When we do this again we will hopefully improve our scores!

Friday 4th March

We have had a lovely first week back to Spring 2! We were introduced to the Mayan Civilisation and are looking forward to learning more about them over the term. We have started our fractions unit in maths. We made predictions about the story 'The King of Space' ready for starting our English unit next week!

Today we had Wild Tribe. A huge thank you to Kayleigh who ran the workshop for us today. We learnt how to build a fire and all about the "fire triangle". We then made our own "fire triangle" wooden decorations to remember this. We each used a drill to make holes! After lunch we had a fire building competition, putting all the skills we learnt to practise. To finish our workshop, we learnt how to tie a new knot! We had a relay race putting our knot tying skills to the test!
